Käthe Kruse Listed in TOP50 Luxury Made In Germany 2015 List
The recently released TOP50 Luxury Made In Germany 2015 List, unveiled by Ernst & Young[1], placed Käthe Kruse, the hundred plus year plush toy and doll brand, at number 23.
"The hand follows the heart. Only the hand can make what goes back through the hand to the heart." Käthe Kruse is a famous actress, artist and mother of dolls, known as “one of the most fascinating women in 20th century in Europe” who set up the brand that shares her name over one hundred years ago. She designed handmade dolls, rejected industrialisation and endowed her wares with artistic expression, a soft touch and vivid emotion.
Dolls by Käthe Kruse are ranked as collector’s items with various sizes and details winning over countless plush toy aficionados. At Kind & Jugend in 2015, Hape founder and CEO Peter Handstein made the acquaintance of a 73-year-old lady called Carillon, whose two Käthe Kruse dolls, given to her by her mother on her 8th birthday, have only been sent back to the factory for repairs once in over 60 years. However, Carillon means to sell the dolls for charity and set up a foundation for orphans, especially for those who suffer different kinds of risks, helping them to get through their tough times. Nevertheless, the story from Carillon is one of the stories that fans of Käthe Kruse can have the pleasure of sharing with one another.
The so called “luxuries” are items from brands with good taste. Nowadays, when we talk about luxury, we refer to a tasteful brand image, individualised product design, dying handicraft approaches, sustainable evaluation for enterprise over extravagant package and, of course, gorgeous appearance.
People who love dolls have noble aspirations and soft emotions, which is something that Käthe Kruse has always known, delivering products that appeal to their customers softer side for decades. In 2013, the brand was acquired by Hape Holding AG and, as part of Hape’s family, Käthe Kruse’s artistic temperament and spirit will last forever.
